This is not freeware. Although several are distributing it, it is still sold by wizard software, and thus you might discuss the issue with them. I don't know if they still sell it.

Thanks, I have contacted them via email since I can't find the bsoftware on the website.

I tried to ccontact a company to see if they had it.
i went here:
www.wizardsoftware.net
here's what i wrote:
Do you still sell this product?

As I understand it is SAPPI4 and will work under XP.

Will this product also work under Windows 7 and 8?

If so, is it a download or a CD/DVD that I'd purchase?

How much does it cost?

Thanks,

john

Mark's response:
Please No More Emails!!!
i said:
um what ?

did you get lots of emails with the same subject from me?

If you responded to my question, i didn't get it.

Thanks,

John

Mark SAID:
Please, no more
So I asked dad what i s should do? I debated about calling him to see if maybe he thought i was somebody else. then dad looked on the web too, and he said that maybe this email back to me was his way of saying this is not the right company and that i was lookin for a product that this company has nothing to do with.
i was wondering if some virus hit his company or something? the response was odd.
Is this the wrong company to be lookin at to find the IBM Via Voice SAPPI4?
If so, do you hav e a URL or some place else that I can turn too?
I did see on IBM's web site that Wizard software did purchase the product, and i also looked on amazon and only found the dictation software.
It seems to me that there are two products with the same name.
One is the dictation software and the other is the SAPPI4 speech engin.
Please somebody, help? Thanks!
John

I'm sorry, but it seems that the company is doing one of their strange company things. From that response, I am not optomistic about you ever getting a response from them. I'm not sure how you should obtain it without dipping into illegality. If you want to do that, I'm sure they've got a copy from some place that they'd give to you.

Post 6 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 24-Feb-2013 15:39:02

I refer of course to other random people, not the company.

Post 7 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 24-Feb-2013 19:35:46

In other words, getting a legal copy is not possible, since the company gave me that response ?

Post 8 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 26-Feb-2013 23:05:27

It certainly seems that way. Actually, there are some old screenreaders (window-eyes 6.0and below and virgo 4.7 come to mind) that shipped with it. Neither of those are distributed, but they contained a legal version. Also, the kurzweil1000 demo had a version of sapi4 eloquence in it. I'm not sure if that's in the demo version (I've got the full one).

Post 9 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 27-Feb-2013 19:25:45

AH, but did it only work with WE ( as in the case of window eyes) or kurzwiel?
I have version 7 someware, i think which is the last version i got. I haven't scanned in ages, so sold my scanner.
As I understand though, the voices aren't available outside that program, at least not that i saw.
I've looked under speech and couldn't find it from what i remember.

The voices that supported sapi4 only came with window-eyes versions 6.0 and below. Seeing as they are now on version 8, finding that would be nye impossible. Kurzweil's copy supports sapi4, not sapi5. They will not appear in the speech control panel. The speech control panel only shows sapi5 voices, and neither eloquence nore viavoice support sapi5. I have no clue about kurzweil 7.0; they are on version 13 now and this contains sapi4 eloquence. What particularly do you want to use the voices with?

Teamtalk and narator.

Post 12 by synthesizer101 (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 27-Feb-2013 22:55:02

I don't know about teamtalk, having never used it. If you send me a manual for it, just post a link, I can clear that up for you.
I can most definitely assure you that narrator will never use eloquence speech. Narrator only supports sapi5, and the software only supports sapi4. Unless some thoughtful company is willing to buy the entire codebase from nuance and recompile it with a significant amount of change, it will never by a sapi5 voice.

If you have a copy of kurzweil1000, it comes with IBM's via voice speech engine, and yes, it can be used outside of the Kurzweil program. I use NVDA with it when I need to use that program.

my copy is 7.0, i tink.

Post 15 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Monday, 02-Sep-2013 16:47:18

narrator for windows 2000 uses sapi 4.

Post 16 by zackmack2000 ( extreme killer of the keys) on Monday, 02-Sep-2013 17:26:34

ok. window-eyes from version 4.0 came with e t i eloquence version5, the last version that was made for sapi4. it never came with viavoice. the one thing I know that came with viavoice was openbook, starting from the roobie addition, and that came with version4.0 of viavoice, or, what was called, viavoice outloud

Post 17 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Tuesday, 03-Sep-2013 14:19:35

zoom text still comes with a version if I remember correctly. if you have an old sound blaster live card, which you probably don't, the bonus software disk has eloquence version 3 (with waid and flow rather than reed and shelly).

Post 18 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 03-Sep-2013 15:22:36

i use glen, but would except wade or reed.
my sound blaster live is from 2000 and doesn't have those options, at least not in the downloaded drivers.
i haven't had a disk in god only knows how long.

Post 19 by zackmack2000 ( extreme killer of the keys) on Tuesday, 03-Sep-2013 23:39:45

yeah. zoomtext always seems to have the latest version of it installed by default. you can also get it from homepage reader. bu I am not so sure if hpr is even around anymore

Post 20 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 12:33:11

hpr is on IBM's ftp sight. the bonus cd you get when you buy certain sound blasters comes with IBM via voice SE version 6 (the speech recognition engine), which installed Eloquence automaticly. I was actually wondering where you could get that particular version as I miss having that.

Post 21 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 15:53:58

so if i downloaded that, i could have the sappi voice?
is it free?

Post 22 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 23:23:51

you could. however, it's only free with the purchise of certain sound blaster cards, so tecnicly it's not free. creative also stopped including 3rd-party software with the Audigy 3, so you'd have to get e.g a sound blaster platinum. check ebay to see if you could buy that.

Post 23 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 04-Sep-2013 23:26:42

i was wondering about the home reader that was available from the FTP site?
i have two working sound cards here so wouldn't need another.

Post 24 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Thursday, 05-Sep-2013 0:06:20

I was talking about via voice ASR version 6. as for hpr, it seams that IBM stopped with it, they went ahead and released a cracked version themselves on the ftp.

Post 25 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 05-Sep-2013 0:14:43

ok, what is the difference in different versions?

Post 26 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Friday, 06-Sep-2013 12:43:01

of what? if you are talking about via voice ASR, the difference that matters is what version of the sapi voice is included. for example, version 6 has v 3 of the tts engine with waid and flow, and version 7 has version 4 (which is the introduction to reed and shelly).

Post 27 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 09-Sep-2013 12:02:16

ah. do they both have glenn ?

Post 28 by Espking (Zone BBS is my Life) on Saturday, 14-Sep-2013 18:47:40

both have an alternate adult mail voice (which doesn't have a speaker associated with it, so it only shows up in the settings for the engine itself;saving that voice as a speaker will make it available as a sapi 4 voice) that I asoom is glen (in version 4 and higher it is that of glen himself). version 3 has another adult mail voice that is glen (where as the other alternate adult mail voice is rocko).
